Historical perspectives for midterms and markets

During the past couple of months, some news media covering the financial markets attempted to explain stock market performance by asserting that prices were reflecting a “typical election pattern.”

This issue of Market Review reviews stock market activity for the 17 midterm election years since 1950 to see if just such an effect exists.
